Whether you or your partner is retiring - or both of you are - the prospect may seem exciting at first. But it can be challenging and even frustrating too, even if your relationship is a very happy one.
For instance, having a retired husband or male partner who doesn't pull his weight with household chores when the female partner is still working – and still doing more than her fair share at home - is a common cause of conflict. Or you may not both have the same ideas about the possibilities retirement may bring, with one partner planning to go back packing around the world and the other preferring to potter around at home.
Living on a fixed income may also come as a shock if you and your partner have enjoyed good salaries over the years. No longer having a job can also often be a cause for concern for anyone who used to define themselves by their career.
Thankfully there are steps you can take so that both of you can fully enjoy your retirement years. Here are a few suggestions.
